Varun Dhawan turns Coolie No.1 on Mission Sapne

Varun Dhawan has always been a charmer who has won the hearts of all the people he has worked with. The story continued as he took on the avatar of a patiwala for COLORS’ upcoming show, Mission Sapne . Living the life of 57-year-old Prabhakar Karale, Varun took to the inside of Mumbai’s famous Crawford market and strived hard to fulfill his new role which required him to carry and deliver the weight of various items purchased by others in the market. Prabhakar Karale is a common man who, like many others in Mumbai, came to the city with many dreams while leaving his young children behind to earn money for their welfare and future.
After spending a grueling day in the crowded streets of a busy Crawford Market as a patiwala, Varun finally managed to earn enough money that would support the patiwala’s dream to make his children’s lives easier. A part of today’s tech-savvy generation, Varun was shocked when he heard that the patiwala did not own a phone and hence, was unable to speak to his family regularly and check on their welfare. Emotional at hearing the family’s jeopardy, Varun openly mentioned to the show’s host, Sonali Bendre that he would like to help solve Prabhakar’s biggest roadblock. He then went on to present the patiwala with two sets of phones to keep in touch with his children.
As Varun stepped into Prabhakar Karale’s shoes, many hardships came his way which made him realize how tough life could be. However, as Varun turned on his charm and star power, there were many moments when his fans and well wishers showered him with love and support for this endeavor he has undertaken. Amongst all the heavy loads that Varun lifted in his role of a patiwala, the heaviest proved to be a basket filled with papayas causing him to put down the basket and ask the question ‘why do some need to eat so many papayas?’! Be it onions, watermelons, snack items or Varun Dhawan did it all to become the lovable Coolie No.1. In fact, the actor did not even deter from dancing to the tunes of his popular song ‘Disco Deewane’ with some of his ardent fans. All in all, Varun’s day turned out to be truly incredible as he strived hard to earn as much as possible to make Prabhakar’s life comfortable. Happy to be of service to the aging man whose dreams revolve around his family, Varun was heard saying, “There is a difference between charity and helping someone, and I prefer to do the latter.”
Commenting on the experience of having Varun Dhawan taken on his job, Prabhakar Karale said, “I kept wondering how a man of his stature will do my menial job?! The way Varun went around the streets and earned money for me….dil se dua nikli uske liye. I will cherish the entire incident till I die. I think my entire family will narrate the incident for the generations to come. Most importantly, I have been able to pay off all my debts. I can sleep peacefully at night now.”
Mission Sapne is a first-of-its-kind initiative undertaken by COLORS which allows celebrities from different walks of life to step into the shoes of common man for a day and earn their daily wage. The show, hosted by Sonali Bendre, features 10 celebrities including Salman Khan, Ranbir Kapoor, Varun Dhawan, Siddharth Malhotra, Karan Johar, Ram Kapoor, Ronit Roy, Mika Singh, Drashti Dhami and Harbhajan Singh. The amount that the celebrities have earned during the course of the day is then multiplied by 100 and the sum total is presented to the common man to fulfill his dreams.
